Where to Go for a Guys' Getaway
Whether you’re planning a bachelor party or just want a fun weekend getaway with the guys, these locales are ideal for your next dudes-only adventure.
Ladies, we love you, but sometimes guys need to leave town for some quality time with our buddies. The coolest guys’ getaways include a few obvious party spots and a couple of places that may surprise you. Whether you’re planning a bachelor party or just need some male bonding time, consider these destinations for your next dudes-only getaway.
Las Vegas, NV
Let’s start with the most obvious guys’ paradise. Millions of guys come to Vegas every year for the gambling and clubs (after all, they don’t call it Sin City for nothing!). Just be careful at those game tables and don’t let the dream of hitting it big lead you to gamble away every last penny! For those who want to escape the casino craziness (highly recommended), Vegas also boasts excellent golf courses, adventure sports and proximity to some stunning natural scenery. You can also drive to Zion National Park in about 2.5 hours, and the Grand Canyon in about 4.
Best Time to Visit: Fall and spring, when the weather is mildest
San Diego, CA
For a surfing getaway, look no further than the San Diego area, which has some of the best surf spots in America—including Blacks Beach, consistently recognized for its powerful breaks. Of course, as the eighth-largest city in the United States, San Diego has plenty of nightlife and tourist attractions to keep the boys occupied when they’re not catching waves. Surfers who would prefer an international getaway should consider Bondi Beach in Australia or any of Costa Rica’s top-rated beaches.
Best Time to Visit: July through early fall (warm enough to hit the water, and you’ll avoid the cloudy period during May and June)
Vail, CO
Guys who love skiing will find their ultimate thrill in Vail, the largest mountain ski resort in the U.S. with more than 5,000 skiable acres. Close to half the trails are considered advanced or expert, so Vail is designed for serious alpine adventurers. The nearby community of Aspen is another great ski destination and has a bit more nightlife and atmosphere than Vail. When packing warm clothing and gear for your high mountain adventures, consider one of Eagle Creek’s large gear bags.
Best Time to Visit: Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, when rates are lower but you’ll still get snow.
Riviera Maya, Mexico
Interested in packing your suitcase and heading to Mexico? The Riviera Maya provides a wide range of activities for any group of guys. You can relive your college spring break days by hanging out at the beaches in Cancun or Playa del Carmen, working on your tan, and trying to meet ladies—or go the action and adventure route. There are nearly limitless ways to explore and have fun, including checking out historic Mayan ruins, ziplining in the jungle, swimming with whale sharks, and visiting small towns to soak up the local culture.
Best Time to Visit: December through April—you’ll appreciate the sun during a freezing cold winter in the States!
Boston, MA
Boston has something for every type of guy. Sports fans can catch a Red Sox game at legendary Fenway Park or get tickets for a Celtics or Bruins contest at TD Garden. Beer and television fanatics should grab a drink at Cheers, the bar made famous by the classic NBC sitcom. Those into the great outdoors can head to the Harbor Islands for a hiking and camping weekend – just don’t forget to take a durable backpack.
Best Time to Visit: It all depends on your favorite sport! To catch the best weather, aim for late spring or fall.
