Bound For Nowhere x Eagle Creek: Namibia 2026

Written by MAK on

MAK has been traveling full-time under the name Bound For Nowhere for nearly a decade. She’s an adventure photographer, filmmaker, and podcast host whose work examines the lessons that come from the time spent traveling, in nature, and observing wildlife.

"Travel is not reward for working, it's education for living.” - Anthony Bourdain

I think everyone travels for different reasons, but the above quote by Anthony Bourdain comes the closest to encapsulating why we travel.

Hey there, we’re MAK & Owen, we go by Bound For Nowhere, and we’ve been traveling full-time (and working from the road) for the last nine-and-a-half years. We’re hosting a group trip to Namibia in 2026 and you’re invited… But first, I think we should tell you a bit about ourselves!

Who We Are

We hit the road way back in the spring of 2016 to live closer to the outdoor recreation that we love so much. When we started traveling full-time, we assumed that we’d be on the road for about a year, but here we are, all these years later, more in love with the world than ever and still going strong! In our time traveling, we’ve traversed most of North America as well as a multitude of countries abroad such as Vietnam, Japan, Australia, Peru, Argentina, New Zealand, and beyond.

Our work as adventure photographers and filmmakers documents travel, the outdoors, nature, wildlife, and the lessons learned from traveling. We’ve come to find that the more we venture out into the world, the more we gain an understanding for ourselves and our place in it. Which is a topic we greatly explore in our storytelling.

Last but not least, we’re avid long distance backpackers, hikers, packrafters, and surfers. We’re always on a quest to see new wildlife and have a keen interest in birds! When traveling, we love getting to experience local culture as it expands our understanding of human diversity, and we feel there is no better way to get to know a place than through its food!

So, why are we hosting a group trip, and why to Namibia of all places?! I’m so glad you asked! First, let's chat about the glories of group travel.

Why Group Travel?

I’ll be frank with you and say that before taking our first group trip, we really didn’t understand the draw. We travel alone 95% of the time and are 100% responsible for all planning and logistics. It felt intimidating to relinquish control simply because it’s how we’d always done things. Then we went on our first group trip to Peru and it changed EVERYTHING!

Traveling with the group that came to Peru was one of the most rewarding experiences we've had in our last nine years of traveling. Sharing a new culture, sights, sounds, and tastes with a wonderful group of people is a uniquely special bonding experience, and we left Peru with so many new friends. These group trips, every single time, have resulted in long-lasting and meaningful friendships. Travel seems to bring people together in a way, the likes of which we've never experienced anywhere else.

I’ve spent a great deal of time thinking on why that may be, and this is where I’ve settled with it: It’s rare in adult life that we get the opportunity to just show up somewhere with the sole purpose of enjoying ourselves. Usually the planning, logistics, and all other aspects of travel are your responsibility and that’s stressful work. Sometimes that barrier for entry is enough to keep people from even starting the planning process of a trip because of how time consuming it can be. But with a group trip, there’s none of that. All we have to do is be there and take in the experience. It allows us to be our best and most-present selves. It allows you to make deeper connections with the other people on the trip, with yourself, and the culture you are immersing yourself in. Truly, there is nothing like it!

Additionally, having a local guide with you is invaluable. The presence provides so much insight into life, culture and food. So often when we are traveling alone, we have so many questions and our only outlet is cold, AI-generated Google answers. With a guide, we get our questions answered by someone with real experience. Someone who can describe the way something tastes or why an animal is behaving a certain way. Every guide we’ve had has been a joy to be around, and it's truly one of the best parts about these trips.

Having now hosted trips to Peru, Argentina/Chile, and Alaska, this trip to Namibia will be our fourth time hosting a group trip. In our experience, we’ve come to realize that some people feel intimidated to wade into big international travel on their own, which is very understandable! We love hosting these trips because going with hosts who have a lot of international travel experience can help give you confidence to dip your toes into new waters. Be it a new continent, a place with big cultural barriers, or simply if you don’t yet have experience traveling abroad. Our goal is to help make it feel more approachable by being with you every step of the way!

Why Namibia?

Namibia has been at the top of our bucket list for a very long time. Years ago, we started watching this live cam of a watering hole on the edge of the Namib Desert. The wildlife is so unique and the desert so picturesque that it started a deep dive into all the country had to offer. There are numerous landscapes we’ve longed to see with our own eyes, like the 300 meter tall red sand dunes and the Deadvlei clay pans. We’ve also never been on a game drive and have had the goal of capturing animals like elephants, giraffes, and oryx on camera! To say this trip is a dream come true would be the understatement of the century. Can you imagine how many animals this will check off our life lists?!?!
