The Tarmac 22 is fantastic carry-on luggage! It fits into the overhead compartment if you put it in "handle" first so the wheels are facing the aisle. It won't fit if you open the expansion zipper or overstuff the lower portion of the bag.
I also use the Tarmac Flight Bag Large to maximize carry on capacity and it fits securely on the Tarmac 22 handle posts. Just slide the bag off when wheeling your carry on down the plane aisle. Here is a handy tip - use a Medium Compressor sac to store a blanket and pillow.

Honestly the shoe bag in the tarmac 20 is a good idea in theory. I am on the extreme end of the scale where i only wear one pair of shoes required for a trip. I found it unnecessary. Otherwise I LOVE my folders and cubes. I have been using them before i even owned the luggage.

I now ONLY use Eagle Creek-it's fantastic! There are many great bags out there, but what puts Eagle Creek at the top of my list is the high quality AND especially the outstanding Customer Service! A bag is only as good as the guarantee. When they say lifetime guarantee, they mean it! I had a small problem with a zipper. Since that bag was no longer produced, they offered me a choice to upgrade to a nicer bag, were friendly and helpful all the way. I had the new bag in days. I liked it so much, I bought more! These bags have trooped all over the world with me and always perform great! Now my friends are buying them too. Thanks Eagle Creek for being the best!

It's lightweight and holds a lot for it's size. If forced to check it, the airlines aren't likely to damage the bag.
Only problems- the "hang something" tag isn't strong enough to hold up a full computer bag and it's not easy to pack a men's suit.

I bought this bag for a trip to Italy and just wanted to do carry on. I found this bag to work for most airlines as a carry on except an Italian one.(Sorry i don't remember the name). It has a companion smaller bag that can be clipped to the top. I found this bag to be perfect and I was in Italy for three weeks. I used the pack it system and it was great. The wheels work on European cobblestones and brick streets. It was also light enough to haul up stairs at train stations and I am a petite woman. After using it, I would never go for a larger roller bag.

I JUST picked up my Eagle Creek 20" and In-Flight Bag and I can't wait to use them. I keep opening them up and checking out ALL of the handy pockets. This is better than Christmas. Then, I realized, that I have other EC products like the over the body passport holder/purse - I've been using it for years and it's just as good as new. I really REALLy appreciate the "No Matter What" guarantee - even though I doubt I'll ever have to use it. Eagle Creek products ROCK!!!

After many years of search for the perfect travel bag specifically for a busy business traveler, the Tarmac 20 is it. I am able to pack for one full week of business travel and up to 10 days for leisure travel. My Tarmac 20 bag and I have visited several cities in the US for business and multiple continents for leisure travel. The capacity of the Tarmac 20 is unlike any other bag I have used in the past, everything fits. I like the designed of all the pockets it allows for things to arrive at their destination not wrinkled or somehow loose inside the bag. Interestingly enough, I often get asked as to where I got my bag.

My Tarmac 20" had her maiden voyage on a flight from San Diego to Copenhagen, Denmark this week. I have been searching for a carry-on suitcase that is roomy yet meets the strict European size and weight requirements, and finally found what I need. With its rounded contours, the Tarmac 20" is easy to stow in the overhead bins, and stuffed to the gills, can still be lifted without any effort. Plus for the green color, making it instantly recognizable. It does require some thought when packing, due to the many separate compartments. Also, the "airport" book (travel essential)doesn't fit readily into the top outside compartment, where it would be most convenient to have, and anything larger would have to be measured carefully.
Still, for a traveler like me with frequent trips to low-income countries where carry-on luggage is the only luggage I bring, the Tarmac 20" is superior to almost every other brand, because of its lightweight.

This year I purchased a 22" for my trip to the Greek Islands. I'd used the 20" to France the previous year and wanted a little more lay flat space for shirts and skirts. It worked great until I hit London and as I was about to go thru security with the bag a gentlemen from British Airways insisted on putting it into the "measuring box". It doesn't fit. I had to check it for next leg to Athens. I had my doubts about taking it as it does measure 4" taller handle to handle between 20" and 22". Haven't figured out that one as the wheel bases are the same! I'll have to revert to my 20" with tote from now on. Even on US flight home to Denver I got it in the overhead but it has to be away from the locking mechanism to fit straight in. On way over to London I slipped it thru but it had to be go sideways to fit in undersized Boeing compartment.
On my first trip to Italy I used a 20" black squashy Eagle Creek(older model) with an expandable feature. I wish my Tarmac 20" had the same feature. It's the length that shouts "measure me!", not the width. I know that you say meets most carry-on requirements. I think that perhaps you should specify that it will not go into measuring box. This is the standard international criteria.
This is by no means a bad review of the luggage. I love Eagle Creek for it's light weight and durability. I use your envelope system and separate mesh bags. They truly make things a lot more manageable.
I had a room-mate this last trip and she said she would give me a recommendation anytime. She laughed when she said that I lived in about 8" of space. She definitely was an overpacker. She kept leaving things in the hotel rooms and even left a 20" carryon on the small ship at the end. She was afraid that she'd not make a connection in LONDON!!!(15 minute bus ride between terminals! then train ride to-boot!) again with 1 hour and 20 minutes between.
Another thought. Just got it. An expandable compartment on the Transit Tote ES would come in handy. I don't want to upgrade to another carryon that won't look like a purse. They would probably make me check one, defeating the goal of avoiding checked luggage.
I'm definitely a lightweight traveler. Good candidate for your luggage. I don't want to go to a backpack so your other system wasn't viable for me. Guess I do like the sophistication of the Tarmac line. That shade of green is my favorite color.

About four years ago, I bought a Tarmac 20 bag and used it extensively for my job. Last year, as I was boarding a plane for yet another trade show, the handle would not retract. A quick call to your 800 number confirmed that I could send it back for repair. A short time later, my bag was returned and has worked perfectly ever since.

Bought this to use as a carry on. I have the Tarmac 25 for more packing space and longer stays but use this one on short trips within California. Appreciate that it is easy to pack with all its nooks and crannies and it can be placed in the overhead bins so I can leave the airport quickly.

Awesome. Great . So easy to handle for a small woman. Easy to grab handles, pop up the wheel-y handle and go. Then, vice versa. Small enough to squeeze down a narrow Mexican bus row. But rugged.

My EC bag has been with me in over 40 countries in Europe and Asia over the last year, supporting trips in length from 4 weeks to 3 months. I confess to shopping a bit and with the expansion zipper, the bag handles everything! It has survived dust, dirt, camels, elephants and many cargo holds and still looks great. A screw fell out of one of the pull out handle slides (likely many trips on very bumpy roads) but it still rolled along fully loaded using only one slide out to the handle.

This is the best rolling carry-on that I've ever used. It fits perfectly in the overhead compartments on the airlines I've flown so far. It's sturdy and made of high quality materials, and can hold more than I thought possible. I was worried that it would tip over when fully loaded, but that didn't happen. I made jokes about the side cup holder, but then I used it for my water bottle when I was tearing through the airport to catch my connecting flight! Great piece of luggage.
